IFBEC Participates in NATO Building Integrity Executives Day

In 2017, IFBEC and NATO’s Building Integrity (BI) program formalized a partnership joining the international alliance and the aerospace and defense industry together in the common cause against corruption.

On September 13, 2018, a Building Integrity Executives Day was held in Kyiv, Ukraine.  The conference was opened by H.E. Ms. Ivanna Klympush-Tsintsadze, Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration of Ukraine, and Ambassador Alejandro Alvargonzalez, Assistant Secretary General for Political Affairs and Security Policy Division of NATO HQ.  The remarks by these high-level officials underscored the importance of creating trust and confidence that public institutions do not tolerate corruption and of having a sustainable culture of transparency, accountability and good governance.

Throughout the day, Ukraine Members of Parliament and government officials from the defense and related security sector, as well as representatives of Ukraine civil society, held discussions with the NATO BI team and a panel of experts assembled by NATO.  Topics included outlining the conditions for transformative change in governance at the policy and individual levels.  Examples from the experience of other countries and from industry were shared, and the conference reinforced why anti-corruption reforms promote greater security.

IFBEC Chair and Raytheon Vice President-Ethics & Business Conduct, Tim Schultz, represented IFBEC and discussed how our member companies use Code of Conduct training to emphasize personal accountability for adherence to an organization’s values and standards, and for compliance with relevant legal requirements.

IFBEC will join NATO in Kyiv on October 11, 2018 for a workshop on Ukrainian defense industry development. The workshop will discuss many aspects of defense procurement including industry-government cooperation. IFBEC will present our Global Principles and partnership with NATO BI as models to consider.

The 2018 meetings in Ukraine demonstrate IFBEC’s commitment to collective action in support of anti-corruption initiatives in our sector.  Please join us at our Best Practice Forum in Paris November 14-15, 2018 to learn more about the IFBEC-NATO BI partnership and how we are fighting corruption together.  Our annual conference includes outstanding speakers and panelists to continue the dialogue and help us enhance our ethics and compliance programs.  See the details here.
